Weird Problem with CDRW/DVDRW

Encountered some very strange problem lately.

Had a CDRW and DVD+RW installed on my WindowsXP Pro computer for some time and had no problem using the CDRW and DVDRW drive previously.

Yesterday, both drive are not functioning under WindowsXP but are shown with a yellow exclamation mark under Hardware Devices. It says that it wasn't able to load the drivers for the drives.

Tried to do a roll-back on the drivers but no previous drivers were available.

Tried to do a system restore to a date, I know, the drives were working and WindowsXP reports the restore was unsucessful. System restore to a point earlier in the day (probably the drives were out) as successful.

Uninstall the CD and DVD drives and rebooted, WindowsXP recognises the drives and automatically install the drivers for it but with the same yellow exclamation mark.

The only thing I had, recently, done was updated the Nvidia video drivers via Windows Update to Nov-03 and had roll-back the video drivers but the same result.

My friend had a similar problem but his was his ADSL USB Modem with dial-up and the dial-up is missing/disabled.
