Not at all relevant to the present topic, but this reminded me of the old vinyl 33 1/3 RPM 12" LP records which often had small alternating black and white lines on the edge of the label. Under the stroboscopic effect of 50 Hz mains lighting, the lines appeared to stand still at the correct rotational speed of the turntable.
