Old NEC CD-ROM drive can't read my CD-Rs?

Hi. Do older CD-ROM drives have problems reading specific CD-Rs? I am using my employer's Office Depot brand of 700 MB CD-Rs. I use Roxio Easy CD Creator to copy files from the HDD. I also close the disc when done burning since it takes over 650 MB and no point of using multisession  to add more files for later burning.

The old Micron Pentium II 450 Mhz machine with a NEC CD-ROM drive has problems reading specific places even when viewing in Windows Explorer (2000 and 98 dual boot). In 2000, Explorer freezes or worse Windows locks up hard. In Windows 98, it tells me that it can't read the CD-R with its blue screen of death. I never had this problems with original CDs (non-burn). Other machines (Pentium III with Liteon CD-ROM drive) and the new Dell Dimension 8250 machine have no problems with the CD-Rs.

Thank you in advance. :)
